NEW YORK – Forbes released yesterday the Best Employers in the U.S. 2016 list, featuring 500 employers across 25 industry sectors.
Marathon Petroleum tops this year’s list. The Findlay, Ohio-based company that has more than 45,000 employees in the U.S. was spun-off from Marathon Oil in 2011. A feature in the current issue of Forbes details the company’s efforts to bring Marathon’s management standards into a Texas refinery plagued by an abysmal safety record and a disgruntled union.
Working with online statistics provider Statista, Forbes asked more than 30,000 U.S. workers employed by companies with more than 5,000 staff members to determine, on a scale of zero to 10, how likely they were to recommend their employer to someone else. The 2016 list includes 500 employers across 25 industries, ranging from corporate giants to universities and government agencies, where employees feel right at home at the office.
The top 10 U.S. employers are:
- Marathon Petroleum
- L.L. Bean
- Wegmans Food Markets
- The Container Store
- United Services Automobile Association
- SAS Institute
- University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics
- JetBlue Airways
“We’ve taken our culture into that refinery,” Marathon CEO Gary Heminger told Forbes. “We’re going to operate it with the best safety and environmental skills available. We’re going to invest in maintenance.”
Forbes notes that company culture is a universal concern across the industries cited on its Best Employers list. For a look at the entire 2016 list, visit forbes.com/best-employers.
