ATLANTA – The formula for Diet Coke may not be changing, but its packaging is. The Coca-Cola Company has relaunched the iconic soft drink with a new look and four new flavors: Diet Coke Ginger Lime, Diet Coke Feisty Cherry, Diet Coke Zesty Blood Orange and Diet Coke Twisted Mango.

The company says that the change comes after speaking with more than 10,000 people from across the country to get their ideas and inputs. Based on these insights, the R&D team explored pairing Diet Coke with bold tropical, citrus and even botanical notes. From the 30 options tested, Diet Coke selected four flavors that received the most positive consumer responses.

The two-year R&D process was also fueled by consumer research pointing to younger Americans’ affinity for big, yet refreshing and great-tasting, flavors in their favorite foods and beverages—from hoppy craft beers to spicy sauces.

“Millennials are now thirstier than ever for adventures and new experiences, and we want to be right by their side,” said Rafael Acevedo, Coca-Cola North America’s group director for Diet Coke. “We’re contemporizing the Diet Coke brand and portfolio with sleek packaging and new flavors that are appealing to new audiences.”

Beginning in mid-January, the new Diet Coke and its four new flavors will roll out in 12-ounce cans and be sold as on-the-go singles and in 8-pack options. All existing package sizes of Diet Coke, along with Diet Coke with Splenda and Diet Coke Caffeine Free, will continue to be available.

Two new Diet Coke flavors will launch on fountain machines: Diet Coke Twisted Mango and Diet Coke Ginger Lime. Coca-Cola Freestyle will launch Diet Coke Ginger Lime and Diet Coke Ginger Lemon, which will also be available as caffeine-free options. The two flavors will replace the existing Diet Coke Lime and Diet Coke Lemon choices.
