ALEXANDIRA, Va.—Wawa announced it is expanding its store footprint to the state of Georgia by 2024, reports Eater Atlanta.

“Expanding to Georgia is a natural extension from the Florida Panhandle, and we look forward to serving more communities along the East Coast,” John Poplawski, vice president of real estate for Wawa, said in a statement.

The Pennsylvania-based company will open as many as 20 new locations in “southern and coastal” areas of the Peach State. Wawa currently has stores across Delaware, Pennsylvania, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia and Washington, D.C., and it plans to open 1,800 locations by 2030.

Eater Atlanta reports that other popular chains have expanded to Atlanta, including Texas-based burger chain Whataburger, Tim Hortons and another Texas-based chain Shipley Do-Nuts.

Wawa continues to open stores throughout its current markets and is set to open 54 new stores in 2022 and announced it will expand into Nashville, Tennessee, by 2025 with as many as 40 stores in the market. In April, Wawa announced that aims to nearly double its store count in what the company’s CEO is calling “the most aggressive growth” in Wawa’s history. The retailer plans to expand into the Florida Panhandle region and adjacent South Alabama, as well as North Carolina.

Wawa discussed its social purpose with NACS in the 2021 Ideas 2 Go video series.

The c-store chain also launched its “Fueling Good” initiative which extends its Wawa App fuel discount program through November 30, in addition to providing new opportunities for 100 customers to win Free Fuel for a Year at participating locations and select store events with free giveaways and support to the local community.
