CHESAPEAKE, Va.—Dollar Tree plans to renovate about 1,250 of its Family Dollar locations and launch its multiprice Dollar TreePlus! 2.0 initiative this year, according to Chain Store Age.

The Family Dollar outlets will have expanded cold cases and freezers, improved merchandise offerings, including Dollar Tree $1 merchandise sections, and a bigger party assortment.

In a statement, Gary Philbin, CEO, said that Dollar Tree’s and Family Dollar’s support functions are now working together in one location and under one leadership team, which will help the organization build greater collaboration and efficiencies.

“As we enter 2020, our teams are aligned, energized and focused,” Philbin stated. “While our first-quarter outlook includes expected pressure from incremental tariffs and promotional activity, we believe we are well-positioned to deliver improved sales, operating margin and earnings in the following three quarters and for full-year fiscal 2020.”

As of February 1, Dollar Tree operated 15,288 stores across 48 states and five Canadian provinces under the brands of Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Dollar Tree Canada.

Rival Dollar General, which reports quarterly earnings this week, plans to open as many as 1,000 new locations this year.
