CINCINNATI, Ohio—Kroger has started charging a fee when shoppers request cash back at checkout, and management says there is no way around it. “We have a fee due to banks and other retailers raising ATM fees and limiting the amount of cashback. We want to offer our customers a convenient, low cost way to get their money,” said a Tweet from the company.
According to Cincinnati.com, customers have the option to receive up to $300 when using the PIN pad cash back process with a debit card. Here is the fee schedule:
- $1 to $100 for a $0.50 fee
- $100.01 to $300 for up to a $3.50 fee
There’s no fee for cash requests under 99 cents. The newspaper reported that a Kroger spokesperson said stores won’t waive the fee even if a customer uses a Kroger rewards card.
