LONG ISLAND, N.Y. – Cumberland Farms and QuickChek are opening new locations in Long Island that focus on fresh foodservice and in-store dining, Newsday reports. The Cumberland Farms store will open Feb. 28 and boast a fast-casual restaurant with three self-service ordering kiosks, plus 12 fuel pumps. In March, QuickChek will debut its fifth “fresh convenience market” concept with nearly 7,000 square feet and 16 fuel pumps.

“I think it was just trying to take it to the next level … we wanted to be known as a convenience store that sells gas rather than a gas station that sells food inside,” said Bryan Pierce, Cumberland Farms spokesman.

These two stores are capitalizing on what many gasoline stations are doing—focusing more on the inside offerings, including foodservice. QuickChek’s current stores have made-to-offer menus, but its new concept provides a more open layout and a more robust fresh food offering, plus charging stations for cell phones and laptops. The chain will open a couple of stores on Long Island each year.

The newest Long Island Cumberland Farms location is a “next generation” prototype featuring a bigger footprint and a heavy focus on food. Currently, Cumberland Farms has 15 such concepts, but this will be first one on Long Island.
