Fighting Food Insecurity

More than 38 million people in the United States are food insecure, according to the USDA. As a major source of food for many Americans, convenience stores can play an important role in addressing food insecurity and hunger in their communities.

Through round-up campaigns to in-kind food product donations, many convenience retailers partner with Feeding America, a nationwide network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs that provides food and services.

The NACS Foundation’s Neighborhood Nourish program helps fight hunger by collecting donations for local food banks and participating in volunteer activities to help people experiencing homelessness or food insecurity.

Rescuing Food With MealConnect

Feeding America's Meal Connect program steamlines the process for donating food product to community agencies and food banks. When convenience stores post food to donate on mealconnect.org or using the free app, an algorithm finds the nearest agency to distribute the donation. An affiliated Feeding America member food bank is instantly notified and supervises the donation process.
