2018 NACS LEADERSHIP FORUM: Convenience Reimagined
Our industry is in the midst of significant change—and it’s coming from all directions. Consumer and B2B adoption of electric and autonomous vehicles is continuing to grow. Commitments by France and Britain to ban the sale of gas and diesel vehicles by 2040 signals a huge disruption in the fuels market, especially if similar bans spread to other countries. Customer experience-focused technologies, like self-ordering kiosks and self-checkout, will continue to evolve with an emphasis on extending convenience opportunities. The Internet of Things, with its endless opportunities to increase customer traffic, services and basket size, will also help optimize supply chain operations with greater wholesaler and DSD supplier automation.

Innovation, from retail juggernauts like Amazon, is also shifting consumers’ expectations for convenience.  Be it Amazon—or Netflix or Uber or some company you have not even heard of yet—these companies have found the ideal combination of convenience, price, speed and variety that best appeals to consumers. Rather than responding to consumer preferences, these companies shape consumer behavior.

All of these disruptions, while jarring, allow us the necessary pause to evaluate processes and iterate, employing new learnings.  However, it requires a willingness to share best practices among industry peers and an openness to outside and unconventional perspectives.    

In keeping with our annual “Visions of the Future” theme, the 2018 NACS Leadership forum is aimed at helping attendees chart a path in this new era of convenience.  Along with the executive peer networking that is a hallmark of the Leadership Forum, our 2018 event will prepare you to navigate this disruption. Through a series of captivating general sessions, we’ll feature a slate of dynamic yet informative speakers who will share both academic and practical applications.

Retailer Kick Off featuring Greg Parker, CEO Parker Companies, Scott Hartman, President & CEO Rutter's, and Gus Olympidis, President & CEO Family Express Corporation, followed by a conversation with Henry Armour, President & CEO, NACS.

While some believe our industry has been disrupted by internal and external forces out of our control, Gus Olympidis, Greg Parker, and Scott Hartman have reputations for seeing what was around them, ahead of them and what was coming to create or re-create the competitive advantages that have made them and their businesses recognized leaders in the industry. It’s this type of leadership that allows the convenience and fuel retailing industry to be the place where 1/2 the population of the United States shops every day. Gus, Greg, and Scott will open the 2018 NACS Leadership Forum with perspectives about moving into a new era of digital revolution and disruption and the strategies they’ve implemented to remain competitive. Following their talks, the retailer leaders will sit down with Henry Armour for a dynamic Q&A on visions of the future and what they may mean for the convenience industry.

Closing Session: Creating a Culture of Innovation

In this provocative session, culture expert Jamie Notter will share some eye-opening research on workplace cultures that highlights key pitfalls and opportunities for creating a culture of innovation—at a time when this industry needs it the most.




Retailer attendance is by invitation only. *Invited retailers consist of top executives (CEOs, COOs and Vice Presidents) of successful convenience retailing companies operating 50+ stores throughout the United States, and even a few from around the world. For invited retailers, NACS provides complimentary registration for the 2018 NACS Leadership Forum and a one-night credit (February 7 or 8) at the Trump National Doral Hotel. Invited retailers may also apply for reimbursement of up to $350 for travel and lodging-related expenses. As in previous years, spouses are invited to attend for only $459.

The Leadership Forum is an exclusive event made available to our Hunter Club supplier members. Hunter Club Gold members are eligible to register up to four (4) company representatives, Hunter Club Silver two (2) and Hunter Club Bronze one (1). The registration fee for Hunter Club members is $6,000 per person. Additional Hunter Club company personnel over and above their allotment will be $7,500 per person. NACS reserves the right to limit the number of additional registrations in order to maintain an appropriate balance between retailers and suppliers.

Registration is open to non-Hunter Club companies based on availability, and they are limited to one (1) participant at $10,000.
