 Research Coordinator

 

NACS, the Association for Convenience and Fuel Retailing, has an immediate opening for a Research Coordinator. Based in Alexandria, Virginia, the Research Coordinator will schedule and coordinate NACS client engagements and have administrative responsibilities for a wide range of research projects including designing, deploying and analyzing surveys. The Research Coordinator must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling and coordinating NACS Research client engagements
  • Supporting the NACS shopper insights portfolio.
  • Maintaining, monitoring and querying assigned databases.
  • Supporting the NACS State of the Industry Summit enterprise.
  • Assisting the team with fact checking and research duties.

The ideal candidate will possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preference for Business Administration, Economics, IT or science majors.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office.
  • Self-starting, motivated individual with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively (written and verbal).
  • Detail oriented and highly organized.
  • Strong analytic skills.
  • Commitment to high levels of quality and customer service.

 Content Manager

 

NACS, the association representing the convenience and fuels retailing industry, is in need of a deadline-driven Content Manager to manage our content across multiple print and digital platforms.

The Content Manager primarily manages the administrative operations of the award-winning monthly  NACS Magazine, overseeing its production schedule and editorial calendar in addition to its digital assets (NACSMagazine.com and the NACS Magazine App).  Project management of the association’s 8-10 event-based directories and publications is also an area of focus. In addition, the Content Manager plays a key role managing production of the daily e-newsletter.

The Content Manager is part of a dynamic content team that develops and executes an org-wide content strategy by working closely with marketing, education, public relations and government relations departments.

Project Management

  • Work collaboratively with Media team and design agency to control schedules and enforce deadlines for NACS Magazine media platforms (print and digital) with freelance authors and staff.
  • Serve as main point of contact for outside design agency: post proofs, share feedback on design concepts.
  • Manage production and schedule for NACSMagazine.com and NACS Magazine App.
  • Manage and work with internal teams to develop 8-10 event directories each year and an annual State of the Industry Report and annual Compensation Report.
  • Manage production schedule for NACS Show Daily newspaper.
  • Assist in production of NACS Daily e-newsletter.
  • Works with internal content owners to ensure editorial voice, tone and standards are met on convenience.org, while also adhering to deadlines and style.

Writing/Content

  • Assist Media team with brainstorming magazine issue content and topics.
  • Assist Media and design teams to help select artwork, concepts and photography/illustrations that support the editorial content and layout.
  • Proofreading as needed.
  • Provide short-bite editorial content for the regularly running departments of NACS Magazine: NACS News, Members News, C.org.
  • Quality control/review for NACSMagazine.com and NACS Magazine App.
  • Attend NACS and industry events, contributing to editorial coverage and developing relationships with members.
  • Contribute to content on NACS social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter.
  • Contribute to and update content on Convenience.org as necessary.

Business Operations

  • Track fees and send and collect contracts to freelancer writers.
  • Create and/or refine foundational elements for NACS Media: building and maintaining editorial procedures and guidelines for staff and freelancers; serving as internal copyright rules expert, developing and maintaining list of subject matter experts for content outreach.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining editorial metrics for print and digital media platforms.

Skills Required

  • Stellar abilities in planning and coordinating people and operations
  • Exceptional ability in proofreading and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated and personal interest in and familiarity with all major social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn
  • Working knowledge of online platforms (Drupal and Kentico experience a plus)
  • Outstanding communication and people abilities; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
  • Reliable and efficient

Education and Experience

  • 2-5 years of proven experience managing publication deadlines and working with teams, demonstrating operational and organizational discipline
  • BS/BA in journalism or relevant field

Location

  • The Content Manager is expected to work onsite at our offices at 1600 Duke Street Alexandria, VA.
  • Roughly 5% travel is required for attendance at select NACS events.

 Marketing Manager

 

NACS is seeking a Marketing Manager to assist our five-person marketing team in developing and implementing integrated marketing campaigns with a clearly defined marketing strategy across a portfolio of high-profile educational partnership programs and international events. Marketing efforts will assist NACS in achieving its core objectives: drive NACS membership, event attendance, product sales, and overall brand awareness and loyalty.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for day-to-day marketing efforts, as well as the development and ongoing evolution of marketing vision and strategy for a high-value, global portfolio of events, products, and services within our “International” and “Education” verticals.
  • Position and enhance the overall brand value and product positioning of NACS.
  • Develop, implement and manage integrated marketing plans and tactics across a wide range of channels, including landing pages, content marketing, affiliate relationships, social, PR, print, email and digital. This includes both coordination of current, ongoing campaigns, as well as envisioning new campaigns consistent with our bull’s-eye target and our organization’s key differentiators and value propositions.
  • Effectively execute marketing programs through team collaboration, tracking, competitive research and pushing the envelope to regularly test new and emerging channels.
  • Evaluate results against benchmarks and goals to measure the effectiveness of international marketing programs and implement improvements as required.
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders—including membership, web / IT / data, events, publishing, and external agencies—to achieve internal business unit goals and objectives while also delivering the tactical assets to support these plans.
  • Responsible for managing a high volume of projects and prioritizing activities to effectively deliver marketing plans on time and budget.
  • Ensure all deliverables adhere to NACS brand guidelines and enforce event branding where possible across the team.
  • Measure and communicate status / results of activities; must have strong communication and organization skills.
  • Possess a keen interest in professional development, learning and growth; expand functional competencies by identifying opportunities for improvement, attending educational programs, reviewing industry publications, etc.
  • Other duties as required by business need

Requirements and Primary Selection Criteria

  • 3-6 years of demonstrated marketing experience
  • International event marketing experience a plus 
  • 2+ years digital marketing experience and social media expertise
  • Master’s degree in Marketing or Integrated Marketing and Communications (pursuing or attained) preferred
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Strong understanding of the principles of marketing, communications and measurement
  • Sound project management skills and strong attention to detail
  • Solid understanding of email/marketing automation platforms such as Real Magnet, Mail Chimp or similar, in order to execute various types of email campaigns, including adjusting layout, copy, images, calls-to-action, and other content as needed.
  • Ability to multitask, operate under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Team player – works to ensure team goals are met or exceeded; strong capabilities in partnering with internal stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office; strong Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email (Outlook) required
  • Experience in the Adobe Creative suite (Photoshop, InDesign, and/or Illustrator) preferred
