 Research Coordinator

 

NACS, the Association for Convenience and Fuel Retailing, has an immediate opening for a Research Coordinator. Based in Alexandria, Virginia, the Research Coordinator will schedule and coordinate NACS client engagements and have administrative responsibilities for a wide range of research projects including designing, deploying and analyzing surveys. The Research Coordinator must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling and coordinating NACS Research client engagements
  • Supporting the NACS shopper insights portfolio.
  • Maintaining, monitoring and querying assigned databases.
  • Supporting the NACS State of the Industry Summit enterprise.
  • Assisting the team with fact checking and research duties.

The ideal candidate will possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preference for Business Administration, Economics, IT or science majors.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office.

 Editor in Chief

 

NACS, the global association that advances convenience and fuel retailing, is looking for an experienced Editor in Chief to lead its award-winning NACS Magazine and digital platforms as a key player of the NACS Media Group. This position has a strong voice in guiding content for all NACS media and member communication platforms. This high-performing, highly productive individual will be a public face and advocate for NACS among its membership.

Key Responsibilities

Editorial

  • Lead content creation for NACS Magazine, to include monthly article assignments to freelance writers, substantive editing of articles, and quality control.
  • Responsible for attracting, developing and retaining freelance editorial talent and sustaining good relationships with freelancers.
  • Grow digital platforms (NACSMagazine.com and NACS Magazine App) with new multimedia content.
  • Maintain and grow sponsored/branded content offers.
  • Write articles for the magazine as needed.
  • Collaborate with editorial and IT teams to direct and keep current the editorial content for the association’s website, Convenience.org.
  • Participate in developing social media strategy and postings for NACS platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn).
  • Lead regular editorial meetings with editorial staff and other departments.
  • Collaborate with editorial team and design partner to develop art concepts for cover and feature articles.

Strategic

  • Setting the editorial course over short, medium and long terms for NACS Magazine and other media platforms.
  • Working with advertising and IT teams, ensuring an overall view is taken of digital and financial opportunities and challenges.
  • Work to position NACS content across global markets.
  • Identify trending topics and connections across the organization and the industry.

Internal

  • Manage ongoing development and performance of editorial and circulation staff (deputy editor, production manager and managing editor).
  • Manage editorial budget.
  • Attend 4-5 NACS events throughout the year, coordinating onsite reporting and assisting as needed.
  • Manage audience development for NACS through magazine circulation efforts.
  • Identify and track relevant metrics for the magazine’s digital platforms.

Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in editorial leadership
  • Proven experience building teams and managing a small or large staff
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree a plus

 Managing Editor

 

The Managing Editor supervises the day-to-day operations of the award-winning NACS Magazine, the monthly magazine of NACS, the association representing the convenience and fuels retailing industry. The core function of the Managing Editor is to oversee production schedules and editorial calendars for the print publication as well as its digital assets (NACSMagazine.com and the NACS Magazine App), event directories and social media channels.

The Managing Editor is part of a dynamic content team that develops and executes org-wide content strategy by working closely with marketing, education, public relations and government relations departments.

Project Management

  • Work with Media team and design agency to control schedules and enforce deadlines for NACS Magazine media platforms with freelance authors and staff.
  • Oversee proofreading procedures and edit copy when necessary.
  • Serve as main point of contact for outside design agency: post proofs, share feedback on design concepts.
  • Work with production manager on creation of monthly magazine layout.
  • Manage production and schedule for NACSMagazine.com and NACS Magazine App.
  • Manage and work with internal teams to develop 8-10 event directories each year and an annual State of the Industry Report.

Writing/Content

  • Collaborate with Media team to determine issue content and topics.
  • Collaborate with Media and design teams to select artwork, concepts and photography/illustrations that support the editorial content and layout.
  • Proofreading as needed.
  • Provide editorial content for the 2-3 regularly running departments of NACS Magazine.
  • Quality control/review for NACSMagazine.com and NACS Magazine App.
  • Attend NACS and industry events with the goal of contributing to editorial coverage and developing relationships with members.
  • Contribute to content on NACS social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter.
  • Serve on website strategy team and contribute content to Convenience.org as necessary

Business Operations

  • Manage freelance writer budget, tracking fees and sending and collecting contracts.
  • Create and/or refine foundational elements for NACS Media: building and maintaining editorial procedures and guidelines for staff and freelancers; serving as internal copyright rules expert, developing and maintaining list of subject matter experts for content outreach.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining editorial metrics for media platforms.

Skills Required

  • Stellar abilities in planning and coordinating people and operations
  • Exceptional ability in proofreading and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated and personal interest in and familiarity with all major social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn
  • Working knowledge of online platforms (Drupal and Kentico experience a plus)
  • Outstanding communication and people abilities; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
  • Reliable and efficient

Education and Experience

  • 5-8 years of proven experience as managing editor, senior editor or relevant role, demonstrating operational and organizational discipline
  • BS/BA in journalism or relevant field

 Education Coordinator

 

​Position Summary
The NACS Value Centers include knowledge, connections, advocacy and the annual Show. We offer education at the NACS Show, HR Forum, Leadership Forum, global forums, and other events. The purpose of education at these events is to help lead the industry in solving key business challenges, engage members, ignite new members, and generate revenue for NACS.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Director of Training and Development, along with the Education team and will develop, coordinate and communicate Education efforts, as well as calculate and report on results. A primary duty of this role includes preparing Education Session presenters and aiding them in the development and formatting of their content. This role includes content development, implementation, evaluation and administrative efforts.

The successful candidate will have experience and competencies in instructional design using ADDIE, building and maintaining relationships across internal and external stakeholders, and a passion for excellence in the customer experience. The successful candidate will interface with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts (Member Services, Marketing, Products and Services, Expo, etc.) and external stakeholders to promote the education of our convenience and fuel-retailing members.

Who We’re Looking For

Key Responsibilities
• Assist with the planning, development and execution of Education Sessions at the annual NACS Show to include coordination with event speakers, attendees, and NACS Staff. Specifically, support the content development of education sessions by liaising with speakers
• Execute post event follow up including evaluation summary and documentation, speaker thank-you letters, and attendee communications
• Develop printed materials (badges, sign-in sheets, certificates, on-site handouts or programs, etc.)
• Assist in the confirmation, enrollment, and verification for NACS education program attendees
• Assist in outreach to member organizations about education programs
• Partner with program leads to update, enhance, and distribute educational materials
• Research solutions to educational needs identified by our members
• Report on training attendance and evaluation metrics
• Utilize Adult Education principles and stay up-to-date on new training methods and techniques to use
• Complete administrative tasks such as assisting with the completion of non-employee expense reporting, placing print orders, and confirming dates with vendors
• Communicate with educational program attendees on logistics
• Attend select NACS events as staff support
• Provide support for special projects as required

Education and Experience
• 1-2 years of experience in education, or training and development within an organizational setting required
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Proven experience utilizing ADDIE to develop instructional content
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency and experience with Microsoft PowerPoint required

Final interviews will include a 30-minute presentation where you’ll teach us how to do something (it could be anything). You’ll be asked to submit your module design/ development, including leader and participant guides and an evaluation plan.

 Marketing Manager

 

NACS is seeking a Marketing Manager to assist our five-person marketing team in developing and implementing integrated marketing campaigns with a clearly defined marketing strategy across a portfolio of high-profile educational partnership programs and international events. Marketing efforts will assist NACS in achieving its core objectives: drive NACS membership, event attendance, product sales, and overall brand awareness and loyalty.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for day-to-day marketing efforts, as well as the development and ongoing evolution of marketing vision and strategy for a high-value, global portfolio of events, products, and services within our “International” and “Education” verticals.
  • Position and enhance the overall brand value and product positioning of NACS.
  • Develop, implement and manage integrated marketing plans and tactics across a wide range of channels, including landing pages, content marketing, affiliate relationships, social, PR, print, email and digital. This includes both coordination of current, ongoing campaigns, as well as envisioning new campaigns consistent with our bull’s-eye target and our organization’s key differentiators and value propositions.
  • Effectively execute marketing programs through team collaboration, tracking, competitive research and pushing the envelope to regularly test new and emerging channels.
  • Evaluate results against benchmarks and goals to measure the effectiveness of international marketing programs and implement improvements as required.
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders—including membership, web / IT / data, events, publishing, and external agencies—to achieve internal business unit goals and objectives while also delivering the tactical assets to support these plans.
  • Responsible for managing a high volume of projects and prioritizing activities to effectively deliver marketing plans on time and budget.
  • Ensure all deliverables adhere to NACS brand guidelines and enforce event branding where possible across the team.
  • Measure and communicate status / results of activities; must have strong communication and organization skills.
  • Possess a keen interest in professional development, learning and growth; expand functional competencies by identifying opportunities for improvement, attending educational programs, reviewing industry publications, etc.

Requirements and Primary Selection Criteria

  • 3-6 years of demonstrated marketing experience
  • International event marketing experience a plus 
  • 2+ years digital marketing experience and social media expertise
  • Master’s degree in Marketing or Integrated Marketing and Communications (pursuing or attained) preferred
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Strong understanding of the principles of marketing, communications and measurement
  • Sound project management skills and strong attention to detail
  • Solid understanding of email/marketing automation platforms such as Real Magnet, Mail Chimp or similar, in order to execute various types of email campaigns, including adjusting layout, copy, images, calls-to-action, and other content as needed.

 Marketing Coordinator

 

​NACS is seeking a Marketing Coordinator to assist our five-person marketing team in developing and implementing integrated marketing campaigns, copywriting, project management and report tracking of marketing efforts to achieve our core objectives: drive NACS membership, event attendance, product sales, and overall brand awareness and loyalty.

The Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the NACS marketing team. Specific areas of responsibilities will include:

  • Interface with marketing team on testing and execution of strategic campaigns for NACS membership, events, products & services, and other initiatives, across email, print, web, social media and mobile.
  • Create and/or support in the layout, design and copywriting for integrated marketing campaigns
  • Route and manage creative jobs internally and externally within Teamwork project management platform. Provide transparency to organization on status of projects and deliverables.
  • Coordinate the work of freelance designers, copywriters, and web developers, as needed, to ensure projects adhere to objectives spelled out in marketing plan and creative briefs.
  • Monitor marketing deliverables for uniformity in message and visual identity, following brand guidelines.
  • Provide general marketing support including but limited to:
    • Track and process invoices and expenditures relating to marketing campaigns 
    • Maintain and catalog strategic marketing plans and assets across brand verticals
    • Work closely with marketing managers to develop, track, analyze and improve effectiveness of campaigns.
    • Support team meetings and conference calls
    • Other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION

  • Hold a BA/BS degree in marketing, communications, PR, or related field
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of professional marketing experience.
  • Sound understanding of the principles of marketing and communications
  • Experience in Microsoft Office and the Adobe Creative suite (Photoshop, InDesign, and/or Illustrator)
  • Graphic Design, Photography & Videography experience preferred
  • Solid understanding of email/marketing automation platforms such as Real Magnet, Mail Chimp or similar in order to execute various types of email campaigns, including adjusting layout, copy, images, calls-to-action, and other content as needed.
