 Grassroots Manager

 

​​NACS, the Association for Advancing Convenience and Fuel Retailing, has an immediate opening for a Grassroots Engagement Manager. Based in Alexandria, Virginia, the Grassroots Engagement Manager will manage the daily operations of the NACS grassroots engagement program and develop a social media communications program. As a member of the 6-person NACS Government Relations Team, the Grassroots Engagement Manager must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment. As a member of the 6-person NACS Government Relations Team, the NACSPAC Manager must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment. This position includes working with C-Suite executives of Fortune 500 Companies and participating in a Top 40 U.S. convention.  

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and assist Government Relations team with NACS members grassroots engagement activities
  • Implement all engagement programs including, but not limited to, NACS In Store, NACS Government Relations Conference, and “Calls to Action”
  • Develop long-term tracking system (procedures and process) for engagement programs
  • Draft communications and marketing materials for engagement programs
  • Coordinate with state association executives to strengthen relationships and to recruit state association members to engage in NACS grassroots activities in collaboration with the State Association Advocacy Manager
  • Support operations of the NACS Political Engagement Committee
  • Develop, launch and manage the government relations social media strategy to enhance NACS member engagement with the association and with Members of Congress
  • Work in collaboration with other staff members at NACS to coordinate social media activity 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Highly effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • 2-3 years of relatable grassroots or government relations experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Fluent in social media (Twitter and Facebook)
  • Availability for moderate travel 
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Positive cultural fit: team player, person of integrity, creativity, and energy

 Data Services Coordinator

 

​Purpose of Position
To assist with all entries to Organization Database which includes supporting NACS staff with registrations for various events, updating customer records, processing financial transactions and performing database hygiene projects.

Essential Duties of Position

  • Maintenance of Organization Database. We currently use Abila’s NetFORUM AMS
  • Daily processing of all requests to our support desk to update or enter new information into the database.
  • Reviewing all returned USPS mail that has been returned as undeliverable by the Post office and invalidating bad addresses.
  • Processing incoming Check and EFT Payments.
  • Processing of all new membership applications to the specification of our membership team.
  • Development of a proactive data hygiene protocol to ensure that the data is of the highest quality. This will be an ongoing responsibility.
  • Onsite Registration and Customer Service Support at our annual Trade Show (The NACS Show) an event that occurs each year in October is various cities around the Country.
  • Processing event registrations not submitted through the online event registration sites
  • Training of new hires at NACS in the usage of the database.

Position Requirements

  • Previous organizational customer database experience required (not Microsoft Access).
  • Previous financial posting experience a plus.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office.
  • Flexibility to travel for up to 2-3 events a year.
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Ability to fit into a positively oriented culture.

 Writer-Editor

 

NACS, the association representing the convenience and fuels retailing industry, seeks an Writer-Editor to generate and strategize content across multiple print and digital platforms.

The Writer-Editor guides the content, consistency and editing of the award-winning NACS Daily e-newsletter and contributes to other NACS Media platforms, including NACS Magazine, Convenience.org and social media. The Writer-Editor is also part of a small but growing, dynamic content team that develops and executes org-wide content strategy by working closely with marketing, education, public relations and government relations departments. This position reports to the Editor in Chief, NACS Media Group.

Our ideal candidate is someone who instinctively dives headfirst into issues and loves to craft content for a variety of platforms. In addition to reporting on industry news and trends, we explore how current events affect our readers’ businesses. In the past year, our team has produced content on topics such as the recovery efforts after Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria; the #MeToo movement; and Generation Z.

Responsibilities include:

NACS Daily e-newsletter

  • Work with freelancers to plan content for NACS Daily and incorporates news and information from stakeholders across the association, including Government Relations and Marketing.
  • Edit news and coordinate proofing, posting and changes.
  • Stay current with industry issues and breaking news.
  • Track engagement metrics, most popular stories and circulation.

NACS Magazine

  • Collaborate with internal editorial team on content and external design firm on content, cover and art design.
  • Assist in editing and proofreading.
  • Help research, launch and implement initiatives for expanding digital/online presence of magazine.
  • Write short-bite editorial content for the regularly running departments of NACS Magazine: NACS News, Member News, Back Page, C.org.

Social Media/Web

  • Write and promote NACS content through social channels and/or with social campaigns and track key metrics.
  • Collaborate with web content manager to plan and post organization-wide content at www.convenience.org.
  • Research and implement new opportunities for expansion of content into podcasting, video and other technologies.
  • Participate in Web Strategy Team meetings.

Big Picture

  • Attend NACS events with the goal of developing content ideas and building relationships with members. 
  • Provide spot coverage from NACS events by generating content for NACS communications vehicles, both print and digital.
  • Assist editorially with other content-driven projects.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining editorial metrics for print and digital media platforms.
  • Explore and launch content marketing opportunities.

Requirements

  • Ability to discover and report on topics of interest to the convenience store industry, including political, retail and research topics
  • Fluency in all major social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn; demonstrated experience with Google Analytics and dashboards such as Hootsuite. SEO knowledge a plus.
  • Self-motivated and able to work without a lot of oversight
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teams
  • Excellent organizational, time management, communication and writing skills

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications or other relevant field required or equivalent experience
  • At least 3-5 years of experience demonstrating editing and writing abilities

Location

  • The Writer-Editor will work onsite at our offices at 1600 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA. We are walking distance from the King Street Metro.
  • Roughly 10% to 15% travel is required for attendance at select NACS events.

 Content Project Manager

 

​NACS, the association representing the convenience and fuels retailing industry, seeks a deadline-driven Content Project Manager to manage our expanding content across our multiple print and digital platforms.

The Content Project Manager primarily manages the administrative operations of the award-winning monthly NACS Magazine, overseeing its production schedule and editorial calendar in addition to its digital assets. Project management of the association’s 8-10 event directories and publications is also an area of focus. In addition, the Content Project Manager plays a key role managing production of the NACS Daily e-newsletter.

The Content Project Manager is part of a growing content team that develops and executes an org-wide content strategy by working closely with marketing, education, public relations and government relations departments. This position reports to the Editor in Chief, NACS Media Group.

Responsibilities include:

Project Management

  • Serve as managing editor for NACS Magazine, working collaboratively with Media team and design agency to control schedules and enforce deadlines for magazine’s media platforms (print and digital) with freelance authors and staff.
  • Serve as main point of contact for outside design agency: post proofs, share feedback on design concepts.
  • Manage production and schedule for NACSMagazine.com and NACS Magazine App.
  • Manage and work with internal teams to develop 8-10 event directories each year and an annual State of the Industry Report and annual Compensation Report.
  • Manage production schedule for annual NACS Show Daily newspaper.
  • Work with internal content owners to ensure editorial voice, tone and standards are met on convenience.org, while also adhering to deadlines and style.

Writing/Content

  • Assist Media team with brainstorming magazine issue content and topics.
  • Assist Media and design teams to help select artwork, concepts and photography/illustrations that support the editorial content and layout.
  • Proofreading as needed; approve pages with printer.
  • Quality control/review for NACSMagazine.com.
  • Contribute to content on NACS social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter as needed.
  • Contribute to and update content on Convenience.org as necessary.

Business Operations

  • Track editorial expenses and send and collect contracts to freelance writers.
  • Create and/or refine foundational elements for NACS Media: building and maintaining editorial procedures and guidelines for staff and freelancers; serving as internal copyright rules specialist, developing and maintaining list of subject matter experts for content outreach.

Requirements

  • Stellar abilities in planning and coordinating people and operations
  • Exceptional ability in proofreading and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated and personal interest in and familiarity with all major social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn
  • Working knowledge of CMS platforms (Drupal and Kentico experience a plus)
  • Outstanding communication and people skills; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively

Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of proven experience managing publication deadlines and working with teams, demonstrating operational and organizational discipline

 Marketing Manager

 

NACS is seeking a Marketing Manager to assist our five-person marketing team in developing and implementing integrated marketing campaigns with a clearly defined marketing strategy across a portfolio of high-profile educational partnership programs and international events. Marketing efforts will assist NACS in achieving its core objectives: drive NACS membership, event attendance, product sales, and overall brand awareness and loyalty.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for day-to-day marketing efforts, as well as the development and ongoing evolution of marketing vision and strategy for a high-value, global portfolio of events, products, and services within our “International” and “Education” verticals.
  • Position and enhance the overall brand value and product positioning of NACS.
  • Develop, implement and manage integrated marketing plans and tactics across a wide range of channels, including landing pages, content marketing, affiliate relationships, social, PR, print, email and digital. This includes both coordination of current, ongoing campaigns, as well as envisioning new campaigns consistent with our bull’s-eye target and our organization’s key differentiators and value propositions.
  • Effectively execute marketing programs through team collaboration, tracking, competitive research and pushing the envelope to regularly test new and emerging channels.
  • Evaluate results against benchmarks and goals to measure the effectiveness of international marketing programs and implement improvements as required.
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders—including membership, web / IT / data, events, publishing, and external agencies—to achieve internal business unit goals and objectives while also delivering the tactical assets to support these plans.
  • Responsible for managing a high volume of projects and prioritizing activities to effectively deliver marketing plans on time and budget.
  • Ensure all deliverables adhere to NACS brand guidelines and enforce event branding where possible across the team.
  • Measure and communicate status / results of activities; must have strong communication and organization skills.
  • Possess a keen interest in professional development, learning and growth; expand functional competencies by identifying opportunities for improvement, attending educational programs, reviewing industry publications, etc.
  • Other duties as required by business need

Requirements and Primary Selection Criteria

  • 3-6 years of demonstrated marketing experience
  • International event marketing experience a plus 
  • 2+ years digital marketing experience and social media expertise
  • Master’s degree in Marketing or Integrated Marketing and Communications (pursuing or attained) preferred
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Strong understanding of the principles of marketing, communications and measurement
  • Sound project management skills and strong attention to detail
  • Solid understanding of email/marketing automation platforms such as Real Magnet, Mail Chimp or similar, in order to execute various types of email campaigns, including adjusting layout, copy, images, calls-to-action, and other content as needed.
  • Ability to multitask, operate under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Team player – works to ensure team goals are met or exceeded; strong capabilities in partnering with internal stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office; strong Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email (Outlook) required
  • Experience in the Adobe Creative suite (Photoshop, InDesign, and/or Illustrator) preferred
