Foodservice

Great, even gourmet, food has become common in convenience stores and there are plenty of innovations about how to offer high-quality foodservice.

 Delivery services

  • Casey’s General Stores
In many small towns, Casey’s is a mom-and-pop shop, a gas station, a pizza parlor, a bakery and community gathering place. In 2011, it added pizza delivery, which increased sales and helped the company continue to redefine how they are all things to all people, especially in smaller communities. (2013)

  • Gourmet Gas Stations in Washington, D.C.
Four Washington, D.C.-area gas stations — R&R Taqueria (Elkridge, MD), Fast Gourmet (Washington, D.C.), The Thai Pan (Leesburg, VA) and Seoul Food DC (Wheaton, MD) — are offering unique takes on gourmet food.  (2013)

  • The Corner Deli & Grill
The Corner Deli delivers tasty meals at a very small but very busy Mobil gas station on Santa Monica Boulevard. (2012)

  • Zarco 66 Earth Friendly Fuels
The company is all about earth friendly fuels, innovative green technologies, great food and a marketing and social media program that ties everything together.  (2012)

  • The Cube
The prototype drive-thru convenience store offers customers a way to shop for a range of items without leaving their cars. The store has a full kitchen, fresh foods and online ordering, and takes advantage of a small lot that doesn’t work for other retail formats. (Norman, OK) (2015)

 Catering

  • Metro Market (Sprint Food Stores Inc.)
Metro Market embraces the historical aspects of an old building with a modern offer, with the design and concept of being a place to hang out, study or host social and business events (Augusta, GA). (2016)

  • Flory’s Convenience & Deli (Flory’s Corp.)
The two-story, facility features an old-time look and feel, with modern interior and exterior design elements and an upscale foodservice offer. To attract customers back after its grand reopening, Flory’s introduced a unique and successful morning gas price sale. (Fishkill, NY) (2015)

  • El Carajo
In addition to a traditional convenience store, there are three very unique elements at El Carajo (Miami, FL): the bakery café, the 2,500-plus bottle wine shop and the acclaimed international tapas restaurant. (2014)

  • The Corner Deli & Grill
The Corner Deli delivers tasty meals at a very small but very busy Mobil gas station on Santa Monica Boulevard. (2012)

  • Pinnacle Station Local Market
Located in Rogers, Arkansas, this store boasts a combination of great prepared food (“amazing” pizza), a salad bar and other high-end, healthy and unusual items. One reviewer on Urban Spoon called it “a combination gas station, butcher, bakery, restaurant and grocery store.” (2012)

 Healthy options

  • Gourmet Gas Stations in Washington, D.C.
Four Washington, D.C.-area gas stations — R&R Taqueria (Elkridge, MD), Fast Gourmet (Washington, D.C.), The Thai Pan (Leesburg, VA) and Seoul Food DC (Wheaton, MD) — are offering unique takes on gourmet food.  (2013)

  • Maverik
Maverik continues to innovate, whether sponsoring sports and outdoors activities, unique partnerships and acquisitions or introducing interesting new products. The idea is that adventure is everywhere. (2013)

  • Bolla Market
The chain of 21 stores and a jobber system has adopted the tagline, “taking convenience to a whole new level” with foodservice and its organic, bird-friendly coffee. Its focus on the community was fully apparent in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy in 2012. (2013)

  • Papa’s Healthy Food & Fuel
The store is really three businesses: a traditional grocery, an organic grocery and an automotive shop/dealer that serve as the hub of the community — especially the farmers market that takes place every Saturday from May through October. (2012)

  • Zarco 66 Earth Friendly Fuels
The company is all about earth friendly fuels, innovative green technologies, great food and a marketing and social media program that ties everything together.  (2012)

The unique architecture and quirky personality is the driving force drawing costumers in, but it’s Slovacek’s fresh baked goods, homemade meats and cheeses, gourmet sandwiches and unique merchandise that keeps customers coming back (West, TX). (2016)

  • Maxol/Applegreen
Some of the most innovative ideas in store design and foodservice execution are in Ireland. At both Maxol and Applegreen food is first—plus a focus on design and making the store a destination (Dublin, Ireland). (2016)

 Sampling

  • Lone Star Food Stores

  • Chef Point Café
Five-star food in a gas station… fill ’er up outside, fill ’er up inside… white tablecloth dining without the white tablecloth. Describe it however you want, but most customers call the gourmet food inside the Conoco gas station “delicious.” (2010)

  • Gourmet Gas Stations in Washington, D.C.
