NAGOYA – The CEO of
7-Eleven-Japan’s
parent company, Seven & I Holdings Co., is looking to integrate the company’s 50,000 stores
into portals for his growing online retail empire, Japan Daily Press
reports.
Toshifumi Suzuki is planning
to make Japan’s
7-Eleven stores pick-up points for the products people order online from Seven
& I’s
department stores, supermarkets and other partner companies. Drawing
inspiration from how U.S. retailers are accomplishing similar practices, he
sent 50 heads of his different companies to the U.S. to learn how to “omnichannel” integration and
apply it to the Japanese market.
The company is now in
discussions with several Japanese online retailers of their point-of-pickup
arrangements. It offers strong logistical incentives, as its 7-Eleven stores
are open 24 hours a day and located throughout the country.
