7-Eleven Japan Seeking Digital C-Store Revolution

7-Eleven stores in Japan will partner with several retailers, who will use the convenience stores as pickup points for its online orders.

NAGOYA The CEO of 7-Eleven-Japans parent company, Seven & I Holdings Co., is looking to integrate the companys 50,000 stores into portals for his growing online retail empire, Japan Daily Press reports. 

Toshifumi Suzuki is planning to make Japans 7-Eleven stores pick-up points for the products people order online from Seven & Is department stores, supermarkets and other partner companies. Drawing inspiration from how U.S. retailers are accomplishing similar practices, he sent 50 heads of his different companies to the U.S. to learn how to omnichannel integration and apply it to the Japanese market. 

The company is now in discussions with several Japanese online retailers of their point-of-pickup arrangements. It offers strong logistical incentives, as its 7-Eleven stores are open 24 hours a day and located throughout the country.
