BOISE, Idaho – Albertsons is easing back into the convenience store industry with the opening of Albertsons Express in Boise, Idaho, the Idaho Statesman reports. Albertsons had operated 300 gas stations before selling the locations after SuperValu bought the company. After Albertsons separated from SuperValu, Albertsons purchased Safeway in 2015, along with that chain’s gas stations at Safeway stores.

Now, Albertsons is revitalizing its Albertsons Express brand with the new Boise location that boasts a dozen fuel pumps and a 3,100-square-foot convenience store. The store stocks fresh fruits, sandwiches, doughnuts and snacks at the same price as the company’s regular grocery store across the parking lot. Customers can grab a drink at the digital soda machine or enjoy a hot espresso drink or cold-brew coffee on tap.

“We’ll get them a coffee with two creams and sugar, a fountain drink or hot dogs, whatever they want,” said Rachel Jones, fuel center sales manager for Albertsons’ Intermountain Division. The company ran 11 Albertson Express locations before selling them to Stinker Stores in 2011.

With the opening of the Boise Albertsons Express, the company runs 395 gas stations. Albertsons will likely open future Albertsons Expresses, although no firm plans have been announced.
