TULSA, Okla. – QuikTrip is expanding in its home base of Tulsa, and helping Amazon customers as a result by providing the e-commerce company’s branded lockers for online pickups.

Tulsa World reports that new QuikTrips are under construction in the Tulsa metro area, the “Generation 3” concept that features a unique fuel setup with dispensers on both sides of the store. Company spokesman Mike Thornbrugh told the news source that Tulsa is a growth area for the chain, which is also home of QuikTrip’s first store in 1958.

Thornbrugh commented that QuikTrip has about 740 stores with 33 under construction nationwide. In addition to growing its store count, the chain has also partnered with Amazon and the e-commerce company’s Amazon Locker service, which helps customers pickup and return their Amazon.com packages at a safe location. QuikTrip stores in Charlotte, North Carolina, offer the service, which have helped the retailer gain additional foot traffic.

The news source writes that Thornbrugh said that talks with Amazon began a few years ago and the locker program was rolled out first to higher-population areas QuikTrip serves, such as Dallas. The lockers have been successful in the Carolinas because the stores are the larger Generation 3 format. “At some point, it will hit the other markets,” he said.
