RALEIGH – The North Carolina Education Lottery begins selling online tickets for some games today, WFMY News 2 reports.

The lottery is offering online subscription services for Powerball, Mega Millions and Carolina Cash 5.

?"We hope the new service will offer a way for those who currently don't buy tickets at a traditional lottery retailer to try some of our games," said Alice Garland, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery. "The subscription service comes with safeguards to ensure it meets requirements that no tickets are sold to anyone who is not physically in North Carolina or to anyone who is under 18, the legal age for playing the lottery."

The lottery is expanding online with the hope of increasing sales, which in turns generates revenue for education in North Carolina. Its subscription service requires a purchase of at least two weeks of drawings for one of the three games.

North Carolina joins at least 11 other state lotteries that already provide a subscription service to players.
