AUCKLAND – McDonald's is taking on a dramatic change in New Zealand, adding an open kitchen, a lush living wall and table service at one of its busiest Auckland locations, reports Stuff.co.nz

The restaurant has undergone a $2 million overhaul, which includes a McCafe, high-speed Wi-Fi for customers, new breakfast and dessert menus, an open kitchen and a gourmet burger bar. The news source adds McDonald’s is rolling out new design and service upgrades throughout Australia, which are now moving into New Zealand.

The new burger bar offers customers the opportunity to create their own burger from more than 32 ingredients via a touchscreen kiosk. Creations are prepared fresh in the new open kitchen and served to customers tableside. New ingredient and side options include gluten-free buns, vegetarian patties, thick-cut fries and a condiment bar.

"The burger bar is all about theatre and transparency. With the new open kitchen, you can see your burger being made right in front of you and can be reassured that all burgers in McDonald's are made fresh to order," Patrick Wilson, managing director of McDonald's New Zealand, told the news service. “A huge amount of customer research has gone into understanding what Kiwis want from a modern McDonald's."
