Soup’s On

Convenience stores are increasingly offering on-the-go dinner meal solutions like soup, and there’s plenty of ‘soup for you’ in the latest NACS Convenience Matters podcast.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Coming up with a character and catchphrase on less than a day’s notice led to an Emmy, an iconic catch phrase that transcended generations and a product line of small-batch soups. Actor Larry Thomas, best known as that “no soup for you!” guy on the classic episode of the NBC sitcom Seinfeld, has extended his fame to a new line of soups.

In the latest NACS Convenience Matters podcast, “No Soup for You,” cohosts Stephanie Sikorski, director of the NACS Foundation and mission marketing; and Nat Keller, NACS director of marketing, talk to Thomas about convenience stores, trends related to soup sales and, of course, some behind-the-scenes accounts of his time working with the stars of the hit TV show, Seinfeld.

“Sometimes it’s about being at the right place at the right time but more often it’s about understanding the market. In Larry’s case, it was about realizing the growing opportunities for foodservice in the convenience channel and its relevance to his personal brand. That’s a ‘soup-er’ combination,” Sikorski said.

The episode can be downloaded on iTunes or Google Play by searching for “Convenience Matters.” It is also available at nacsonline.com/podcasts. A new podcast is released every week, focusing on topics related to convenience stores. Since launching in February 2016, NACS podcasts have been downloaded in more than 50 countries.
