McDonald’s Tests Big Mac With Sriracha

QSR hopes to capitalize on consumer trends toward spicier flavor profiles.

CHICAGO – McDonald's is spicing up one of its top sellers, reports Crain’s Chicago Business, by testing a Sriracha Big Mac in 126 stores in central Ohio starting this week, with a possible nationwide rollout.

The news source notes that the Sriracha Big Mac will be sold through the end of 2016, and McDonald’s will also make the sandwich’s spicy sauce available for other menu items such as French fries and Chicken McNuggets (presumably for dipping).

“We're always trying new creations, and we wanted to innovate with an on-trend flavor like Sriracha to give our customers in Columbus a new and exciting taste,” McDonald's Chef Mike Haracz told Crain’s.

This is the third time this year McDonald’s has tinkered with the Big Mac. In the spring the chain successfully tested a supersized Big Mac, the Grand Mac, and a smaller version called the Mac Jr. Thanks to strong sales, both menu items will launch nationwide in early 2017.

It’s possible McDonald’s is hoping that the additional spice will attract more millennials. The Wall Street Journal reported that just one in five millennials has tried a Big Mac.
