Starbucks Is Bringing the Barista to You

Company announces plans to launch delivery service next year.

SEATTLE – Starting next year, it may be even easier to get your daily Starbucks fix — without even leaving the house, the company’s CEO announced last week. As a follow-up to its new mobile ordering platform, the coffee retailer is planning to launch a food and beverage delivery service in select markets during the second half of 2015.

The delivery service will be available in select markets to Starbucks loyalty program members as part of its new mobile order and pay app, which will launch in Portland next month and nationwide next year.

The move comes as the coffee giant seeks to adapt to what CEO Howard Schultz called changing consumer behaviors. During the company's quarterly earnings call last week, Schultz called the mobile app "the single most important technology innovation" the company will make this year. While the company hasn’t revealed any details behind the delivery service, there is little doubt that the coffee giant is moving ahead with the plan to bring their “third place” to their customers.

"Imagine the ability to create a standing order of Starbucks delivered hot to your desk daily," Schultz said on the call. "That's our version of e-commerce on steroids."
