Hurricane-Related Resources Available

NACS has a number of resources to share insights about potential disruptions and provide other assistance for convenience retailers.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – NACS has developed a number of resources over the years to help retailers prepare for and deal with the aftermath of hurricanes and other natural disasters.

The first resource is a primer called “How Fuel Retailers Operate,” which explains how retailers acquire and sell fuel. The primer is one of two dozen fuels-related backgrounders developed for the 2016 NACS Retail Fuels Report.

NACS also has information on Disaster Recovery & Relief, including a link to information from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on hurricane preparedness.

Other older resources that may also be relevant to retailers include a backgrounder explaining why a hurricane that strikes the Gulf Coast can disrupt a huge segment of the U.S. crude oil market, interrupt the domestic refining and distribution system and affect markets 1,000 miles or more away.

Here is a video feature looking at crisis preparation, and with the NACS Show ready to open in less than two weeks, here is a video that looks back at 2005, the year when the NACS Show almost didn’t happen.

Also, FEMA has updated information, and you can also sign up for email and text alerts from its Daily Operations Briefing.
