LIMPOPO, South Africa – FreshStop, a 24-hour convenience store chain in South Africa, has opened its 200th store in that country, Petro Plaza News reports. The chain has had phenomenal success with its fresh food format after teaming up with Caltex and Fruit & Veg City retailers in 2009.

“We are the leading convenience store retailer in South Africa as a result of a clear growth strategy in place since we opened our first franchise store in 2009,” said Joe Boyle, director of FreshStop. “We have since opened an average of more than 30 stores a year. FreshStop at Caltex has also achieved international recognition, which has made all the hard work worthwhile.”

FreshStop partnered with international brands to provide its customers with the best services and brands, such as the Seattle Coffee Company. However, the chain also developed its own in-house fast-food brand, Crispy Chicken.

“The concept remains a key strategic initiative and differentiator for our Caltex Brand. Our continued emphasis on expanding the number of sites recognizes the value and contribution FreshStop brings to our customers,” said Martin Donohue, CEO of Chevron South Africa.

FreshStop has previously received the International Convenience Store Retailer of the Year Award, which names a new winner each year at the NACS Insight Convenience Summit–Europe.

In 2016, the NACS Global Forum is heading to Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa, a diverse and exciting country where convenience and fuel retailing leaders from around the world will connect, exchange ideas and see fresh perspectives in this dynamic market.
