LA CROSSE, Wisc. – Last week was a big week for Kwik Trip, as the Wisconsin-based convenience retailer hosted not one, but two, U.S. representatives for NACS In Store events, and was also recognized for the company’s donation of $100,000 to a local community center.

Local news outlets attended Congressman Sean Duffy’s NACS In Store event at a Wausau, Wisconsin, Kwik Trip on Thursday morning. According to local radio station WSAU 99.5, Congressman Duffy got a chance to learn more about the company and the convenience industry, thanks to the NACS In Store event.

Duffy shared his thoughts on government regulation with the news source, explaining how the convenience and fuel retailing industry has some issues to work out with how government regulations affect business: "Whether it's how they're going to be selling gas, the price of gas, or how they're selling food here in their stores. There's got to be a balance so people know what they're buying, but when government becomes too heavy handed, the cost goes up so much and you see that in the price of the food you buy."

Kwik Trip was also recently recognized for their donation of $100,000 to Holmen Area Community Center (HACC), to use toward the organization’s building fund. According to the Lacrosse Tribune, the generous donation not only reflected the company’s support for project, it now serves as a challenge for others to follow suit.

“We thought [the community center] was worthy of a substantial donation,” Kwik Trip Communication Leadership and Training Manager John McHugh told the news outlet. “We hope this will get others to come on board.”

In presenting the $100,000 check, McHugh said that the project fit the business’s mission statement of treating its customers, coworkers and suppliers as they would like to be treated and to make a difference in someone’s life. “Holmen is a great community, and we are doing this because many of our coworkers live here,” said McHugh.

The donation from Kwik Trip is significant for the progress in the construction of the center in ways beyond the financial aspect, providing an example to others of what it means to be committed to building a strong community.
