SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Last Tuesday, Illinois Congressman Rodney Davis (R-IL) could be seen working the register at a Springfield Qik-N-EZ location. Rep. Davis was one of the latest members of Congress to participate in the NACS In Store program, which allows congressmen and congresswomen to visit and work a shift at convenience stores across the country to learn how laws from Capitol Hill affect gas stations at a local level.

Davis told local news outlets that he thinks the exercise has been an effective one: "It gives me a chance to understand the impact of the policies we put in place regarding energy and energy production and energy independence in Washington, so that our gas prices here [allow consumers] to be able to get cheap gas, to be able to fuel their vehicles," said Davis.

Further, following his training stint at Qik-N-EZ, including an education on age verification for restricted purchases, Davis said that he thinks regulations preventing minors from obtaining tobacco or alcohol products have been effective. Based on what he noticed while working behind the counter at Qik-N-EZ, Davis said that he was impressed by how difficult it was for minors to obtain tobacco or alcohol from stores, and he will go back to Washington feeling better about those regulations.

The Springfield FOX affiliate attended Rep. Davis NACS In Store event, and a video is available on their website.
