Register for NACS Day on the Hill: September 15

In a few weeks, NACS retailers will descend on Capitol Hill for one last lobbying push before the November elections. This is a great opportunity to put our stamp on the legislative agenda as our elected leaders head out on the campaign trail. We will be meeting with legislators from around the country to make sure they understand your business.

We still have some room if you want to join your colleagues in carrying the message to Congress. To register, visit nacsonline.com/dayonthehill.

450 New ADA Rules to Change Retailer Accessible Design Requirements
On Monday, July 26, the Department of Justice published new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Regulations and posted the new Standards on their website. The revised regulations will amend the Title III regulation, 28 C.F.R. Part 36 (ADA Standards for Accessible Design). The new Rule will be effective 6 months after publication in the Federal Register and the 2004 ADAAG adopted by the revised Rule would take effect 18 months after publication. However, to date, the Rule has not yet been published in the Federal Register, so the time is not yet counting down.

The new 2010 ADA Regulations have approximately 1,000 new "rules," of which approximately 450 will directly impact convenience stores, and of those 450 rules, approximately 100 of them are open to interpretation.

NACS is working with an ADA lawyer and an ADA architect to dissect the rules and provide you with accurate compliance documents in a timely manner. Please visit the 2010 ADA Questions and Answers for more information.
