NEW YORK CITY – British artist Lucy Sparrow expects customers will be very hands-on when she opens Eight Til Late convenience store next summer in New York City, ArtNet reports. The shop will stock traditional convenience store products made entirely out of felt.

Sparrow has become known for her felt creations. Previous felt-only projects included a sex shop called Madame Roxy’s Erotic Emporium and a small shop similar to the one planned for New York. The Cornershop debuted in London two years ago and featured felt representations of regular British convenience store items.

Her most ardent supporters during the London exhibition were Canadians and Americans, which led to her decision to open Eight Til Late convenience store in New York with traditional American convenience store products in felt form. She plans to feature around 8,000 hand-made felt pieces, a two-fold increase from the London exhibition.

At Eight Til Late, customers will be able to purchase any of the felt items on display. Sparrow will use the American version to remind customers how much color and life small businesses bring to their lives. She has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise $53,000 to fund the project.
