MIAMI – Burger King Worldwide released a statement this week announcing that about two-thirds of its 7,300-plus stores in North America will begin phasing out the chain’s lower-calorie French fries, or Satisfries, as they were dubbed.

Introduced less than a year ago to appeal to more health-conscious customers, a small box of the crinkle-cut fries has 270 calories, 11 grams of fat and 300 milligrams of sodium compared to the chain’s regular French fries which have 340 calories, 15 grams of fat and 480 milligrams of sodium.

Earlier this month, Burger King reported that revenue fell 6.1% to $261.2 million in the second quarter. Same-store sales in the U.S. and Canada rose 0.4%. The company has been trying to introduce fewer new items to make its kitchens faster and less complex.
