Chick-fil-A Enters Gourmet Coffee Race

Company hopes high-quality hot and iced coffee will improve breakfast business.

ATLANTA – Chick-fil-A announced a new partnership with THRIVE Farmers Coffee to bring specialty-grade coffee to customers. The coffee was created specifically for the QSR, with flavor profiles that complement items on the Chick-fil-A breakfast menu. This addition is, in part, a recognition that breakfast is the fastest growing daypart for QSRs and those without a premium coffee offering are missing out on potential customers.

The new medium roast coffee offers a rich balance of flavors, including notes of caramel and cocoa with a light citrus finish, with prices starting at $1.59. Chick-fil-A is also offering two sizes of iced cold-brewed coffee in original and vanilla flavors, starting from $2.29. According to an article in Bloomberg BusinessWeek, restaurants have been instructed to brew smaller pots so the coffee is fresher and to prepare the drinks for customers rather than passing them sugar packets and creamers.

“We reflected on feedback from our customers who expressed that they wanted a better cup of coffee, and we found a partner who brought the added expertise we needed. The true magic of this relationship is that not only does the coffee taste great, we also found a partner who shares our belief that business can be bigger than the bottom line,” said David Farmer, vice president of product strategy and development for Chick-fil-A, in a press release. “Now we are able to serve our customers an amazing cup of coffee that also will improve the lives of the farmers who grow it.”

THRIVE Farmers is a network of family farmers in Central America, who receive direct revenue from the sale of each cup of coffee.
