WICHITA, Kan. – A local chef will soon serve fresh-made Mexican and Lebanese food at several Valero locations in Wichita, Kan., the Wichita Eagle reports. Marwan Chebaro, a Kansas City-based chef, is the force behind the new foodservice programs. The first Valero gas station will serve both Mexican and Lebanese food, including fresh lamb shawarma sandwiches served on flat pita bread and Mexican chicken in a burrito or taco.

“Gas stations have to create a new source of revenue, and food seems to be the best model,” Chebaro said. “The goal is basically to create a higher-end food service at gas stations, not just regular pizza and sandwiches and delis.”

Valero gas stations in Augusta, Winfield and Lawrence will only offer Mexican food because of space constraints. While Chebaro hasn’t decided on what to call his new ventures, he’s toying with Burrito Talk for the Mexican cuisine and Shawarma Guy for the Lebanese fare.

To drum up business, Chebaro sampled dishes at the Wichita Valero. While his background is in corporate foodservice, Chebaro wants to be similar to what Hunt Brothers Pizza offers gas stations.
