HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam – South Korean convenience store chain GS25 will soon have locations in Vietnam via a partnership with Son Kim Group, Retail News Asia reports. This venture will be the first international market for GS25.

“We received requests from many countries, including China and other Southeast Asian countries, to export our brand,” said a spokesman for GS Retail, parent company of GS25. “After months of research, we concluded that Vietnam had the largest potential for growth.”

Vietnam’s increased consumer spending has spurred growth in its convenience store industry, with 7-Eleven entering the market this past June.

Meanwhile, in Thailand, CJ Express will invest $120 million to expand its convenience stores and supermarkets in that country, Retail News Asia reports. The majority of that investment will be to open 370 c-stores and grocery stores by 2020.  The company expressed its confidence that the renovations to current locations and new stores will increase sales.

This year, NACS launched Convenience Summit Asia to introduce attendees to where the future of convenience and fuel retailing is happening today and forge relationships with convenience stores and suppliers in that region.
