UNITED KINGDOM – Paul Pomroy, CEO of McDonald’s U.K., said in a statement this week that the company is creating more than 5,000 new jobs in the United Kingdom by the end of 2017.

“As a major U.K. employer, we have added more than 15,000 people to our workforce during the last five years as a result of our sustained business growth and long-term investment in recruitment and training,” Pomroy said. “Growth has been driven by investment and innovation in the restaurant experience, new restaurants and extended opening hours—[more than] half of our stores are now open 24/7 throughout the week.”

Features such as table service, where customers place their order via digital kiosks and have their food brought to their table, are proving to be a popular feature and are now available at more than 350 McDonald’s across the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, a McDonald’s in North Wales has opened a “walk-thru” window to serve hungry pedestrians leaving a nearby nightclub. Open from 2:30 am to 4:00 am, a McDonald’s spokeswoman told The Sun that the walk-thru was initiated by the manager of the restaurant to invite locals to enjoy a meal after a night out at a newly reopened nightclub.

“As the restaurant is in the process of securing a 24-hour license, customers can only use the drive-thru to order food at night, so the ‘walk-thru’ is just a play on how customers can come and enjoy a nice meal, later in the evening,” the spokesperson said.
