AFPD Presents More Than 30 Students With Scholarships

Qualifying students have each been awarded $1,500 in college scholarships.

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. – The Associated Food & Petroleum Dealers (AFPD) Foundation is awarding 31 students with a $1,500 college scholarship this week.

A total of $56,000 in scholarships will be awarded this year, which includes an additional $3,000 in scholarships to Western Michigan University and $1,000 to both the ACC and CFA. The AFPD Foundation’s funding, established with the help from Pepsi and DTE, has awarded more than $600,000 in scholarships. 

To be eligible, a student must be employed by an AFPD member company for at least six months as of Jan. 1; be the son or daughter of a parent who has been a full- or part-time employee of an AFPD member company for at least one year as of Jan. 1; or an AFPD Michigan member customer and their children.

AFPD, founded in 1910, is a multi-state trade association representing thousands of retailers operating in Michigan, Ohio and surrounding states. Members include independent supermarkets, convenience stores, gas/service stations and specialty food markets. Its membership also includes wholesalers, distributors and manufacturers who support the retail industry.
