Target Opening More Small Format Locations

The retailer is opening a new 16,000-square-foot TargetExpress store in St. Paul, its second smallest to date.

HIGHLAND PARK, Minn. – Target is continuing the rollout of its new TargetExpress brand with the opening of the retailer’s second smallest location in the Highland Park neighborhood of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Opening tomorrow, the 16,000-square-foot store caters to a community of families, empty nesters and college students and will include a pharmacy and a robust organics section — the first of its kind at a TargetExpress. The store will also emphasize other wellness-oriented items, along with Target staples suhc as clothing, sporting goods, small electronics, school supplies, home décor, cleaning supplies and jewelry.

Target is embracing the small store model to reach more customers in urban areas, with plans to open five more TargetExpress stores nationwide by the end of 2015. Target’s smallest store is 12,000 square-feet and is located in San Francisco.
