ATLANTA – Chick-fil-A is branching out into family-style dinners with a test run in three cities: San Antonio, TX; Phoenix, AZ; and Greensboro, N.C., USA Today reports. The pilot program will run until November 18.

The meals include two new sides: bacon baked beans and mac-and-cheese. The QSR’s meal offerings provide a choice of four grilled or fried chicken breasts, 30 chicken nuggets or a dozen chicken strips, plus two sides. Eight mini rolls complete the meals, which start at $29.

Chick-fil-A is testing the meals because of a growing demand for takeout. Right now, 36% of its customers buy dinners to go, according to Matt Abercrombie, manager of menu development at Chick-fil-A.

“Our customers told us that they wanted an even more convenient way to share meals at home or on the go, so we worked directly with a group of parents to design every part of family-style meals, down to the cutlery caddy that features five unique conversation starter questions to help customers connect over mealtime,” he said.

Customer feedback on the meals will help the chain decide whether to bring the meals nationwide.
