The new version of the snack cake is nearly 10% lighter than its predecessor.

NEW YORK – Twinkies began revisiting store shelves yesterday, but the new versions are slightly smaller than you may have remembered them, the Associated Press reports.

Say hello to the new 38.5 gram, 135-calorie Twinkie, a lighter and less caloric version than its 42.5 gram, 150-calorie predecessor.

Hannah Arnold, a spokesperson for Hostess, said the size change was made last year by the predecessor company as it tried to avoid financial collapse.

The new product also includes a 45-day shelf life stamp, though retailers can request the company to freeze the iconic bakery items and thus stamp their own expiration dates on them.

Private equity firm Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co. purchased Twinkies and other Hostess products after Hostess Brands announced last November that it was closing.
