SEATTLE - Starbucks hopes that its new iPhone app will entice even more customers to pay for coffee and other goods via a mobile device, Marketing Daily reports. Recently, CEO Howard Schultz said that more than 3 billion people used the Starbucks Card Mobile app to buy coffee.

The iPhone app brings together elements from the Starbucks Card Mobile and myStarbucks apps, as well as allowing users to send a mobile gift. With the iPhone app, customers can pay for drinks, check on rewards, locate Starbucks stores and view check card balances.

Users can send virtual Starbucks gift cards in amounts ranging from $5 to $100 through email or Facebook via the eGift feature. Recipients can redeem eGifts in any Starbucks location. The combination of myStarbucks and Starbucks Card Mobile features had been requested by customers. MyStarbucks cards are being phased out, while the Starbucks Card Mobile app will continue to be available.

"We're inspired by our customers and their feedback on MyStarbucksIdea.com which led us to develop the new Starbucks for iPhone App," said Adam Brotman, vice president and general manager of digital ventures at Starbucks.

Recently, Starbucks launched an app for Android phones and expanded its mobile payment service to Safeway supermarkets. Starbucks first revealed its mobile payment system in January.
