OAK BROOK, IL - This week McDonald??s is introducing a new smoothie flavor, mango pineapple, nationwide in addition to its strawberry banana and wild berry flavors.

"The move is part of McDonald??s efforts to remake itself as a hip, healthy place to eat," writes the Boston Globe.

According to Sofia Therios, McDonald??s director of marketing for beverages, the smoothies drive customers to stop in for snacks between meals, which, writes the Globe, is important because analysts predict that snacks and breakfast "will be the restaurant industry??s only growth categories for the near future."

Also, beginning this week, more than 160 McDonald??s restaurants in Florida around Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties are serving café con leche.

"At McDonald??s, our customers are at the center of everything we do. From time-to-time we enhance our menu with items that are local favorites and uniquely relevant to a community," Bianca Olivas, McDonald??s vice president of operations for Florida, told NBCMiami.com, adding that in 2010, several owners and operators in South Florida asked about adding the beverage.
