MINNEAPOLIS — Earlier this week, Dairy Queen announced an updated menu that it’s calling “the largest new-menu rollout in its 75 years,” adding new hot sandwiches and hot desserts (served a la mode, of course).

In a major change for the purveyor known for frozen treats like Blizzards, Dairy Queen has added ovens to its locations to create their new “DQ Bakes” line. The new menu items are in three categories: hot desserts, accompanied by DQ soft-serve ice cream, artisan-style hot sandwiches and snack melts. The hot desserts include a triple chocolate brownie and an apple tart; hot sandwiches include a turkey BLT and a chicken bacon ranch made with grilled chicken and Swiss cheese; and snack melts include a grilled Buffalo chicken melt and chicken quesadillas.

“This is a game changer for our system,” Barry Westrum, Dairy Queen executive vice president of marketing, said in a press statement. The nine new menu offerings began gradually rolling out last month, and are now available at about three-quarters of the chain’s U.S. locations.
