Starbucks Closing La Boulange Cafés

All 23 of the bakery cafés will close by September.

June 18, 2015

SEATTLE – Three years after acquiring San Francisco-based La Boulange, Starbucks announced the closing of all 23 of the bakery cafés, noting that the stores were not “sustainable for the company’s long-term growth.” The company’s Evolution Fresh retail location in San Francisco will also close.

“As Starbucks stays steadfast in its commitment to achieve long-term growth targets enterprise-wide, it is with careful consideration that the company shares the difficult decision to close all 23 La Boulange retail (bakery cafés) locations, as well as the two manufacturing facilities that serve those locations, by the end of September 2015,” stated Starbucks in a media release.

The stores are closing but branded La Boulange foods will remain on the menu at Starbucks locations in the United States and Canada. Furthermore, the Starbucks says the closings won’t change its goal to “grow its food business and deliver an incremental $2 billion in the next five years in the United States.”
