TULSA, Okla. – Beginning mid-July, residents will be able to stop by an R&G Family Grocers mobile store, offering a “convenient, affordable alternative that will soon make rounds in some of Tulsa's most under-served neighborhoods,” reports Fox23.com. 

Noting that it’s a trailer and a store, the news source writes that the mobile grocer will bring milk, eggs, produce and meat to the area once or twice weekly, with the hope of improving access to healthy foods in North and West Tulsa. "We're not selling potato chips; we're not selling candy or pop," said Plohocky. 

"We'll be taking cash, credit cards, WIC and SNAP," said Katie Plohocky of R&G, who told the news source that 18% of North Tulsa residents have no transportation. She added that operating the mobile operation at a cost of $150,000 is much less than building a brick-and-mortar store, although that’s also a goal for the grocer.

With the nearest grocery store five miles away, one of R&G’s stops will be at 61st and MLK.

For Viola Warrior, who spends as much on gas as she does groceries just to travel across town for healthier options, the mobile store would be a welcome alternative. "All the grocery stores around here are just little convenience stores and you just buy nothing but junk food in them," she told the news source.
