MCLEAN, VA – The flavor of birthday cake is no longer relegated to kid-themed birthday parties. USA Today writes that birthday cake flavored everything sells, and some of the nation’s top CPG companies, as well as smallest, have found a way to turn the familiar cake flavor into everything from vodka to protein power and lip gloss.

At least 17 birthday cake flavored new products have hit the market in recent years, according to Datamonitor, and most have been “ultra-hot sellers.”

Kids aren’t driving the trend, says Tom Vierhile, innovation insights director at Datamoitor. Nostalgic adults, mostly Boomers, he told the news source, are enamored with birthday cake mania: "Even as kids today act more like adults…adults seem to be the same way, tapping into their inner child."

Here’s a look at some of the more popular items:

Ice drinks. Coffee Bean Tea & Leaf is rolling out Birthday Cake Ice Blended beverages later this month. "It's like cake and icing in a cup," Michelle Stene, director of product development, told the news source.

Vodka. Beam rolled out Pinnacle Cake Vodka two years ago and is expanding the line to include Strawberry Shortcake.

Oreos. To celebrate its 100th anniversary, Mondelez introduced a limited-time Birthday Cake Oreo.

Ice Cream. Unilever introduced this spring Good Humor Birthday Cake bars.

Peeps. Just Born tested Party Cake Peeps in Walmart stores at Easter, which will go national next year thanks to a huge success.

Protein Powder. Birthday cake is the third best selling of 11 flavors of protein powder sold by SDC Nutrition.

Toothpaste. Novelty product maker Archie McPhee's Cupcake Toothpaste hit the market in 2011.
