ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Did you know that developing a culture of engagement in your company leads to financial success and a healthier business? That’s what the NACS Coca-Cola Retailing Research Council project on building a culture of engagement found. The results are shared in a three-part guide called “Power Up Your People.”

The second phase of the work, posted this week, is the first of five lessons on how employee engagement works. Each segment, narrated by Dr. Blake Frank, of the Gupta College of Business at the University of Dallas, serves up clear, practical insights that will benefit anyone supervising people in the convenience store business. These cover what employee engagement is, how it impacts business performance, the organizational building blocks required to create it, and how to get started.

Increasing sales and profits is never easy and improving your sales growth strategy in a way that works over the long haul is even harder. The key to pushing forward is to develop a culture of employee engagement. When your employees are engaged in the workplace, the whole team will positively impact the company while fighting against the things that usually hold back performance.

Evidence shows a strong connection between employee engagement and improved business results. Some of the results include a direct effect on sales and profits, as well as indirect impact such as reduced turnover and fewer job absences. Even more important, however, is that the whole team is working from the same game plan. In today’s competitive world, this is a proven way to put a competitive strategy in place.

Released this week, Dr. Blake’s second presentation on “How Employee Engagement Works,” shows how greater employee engagement can generate positive results for many companies.  Look for the third video installment the week of May 9.
