JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri lawmakers approved a bill allowing retailers to sell beer by the bottle, the Associated Press reports.

Current law requires beer to be sold in packages containing at least three bottles. The new law would allow sales of single bottles, cans or pouches of beer.

The bill passed the Senate last month on a vote of 31-1 and the House passed it earlier this week on a vote of 143-1. It now heads to Governor Jay Nixon.

The change would take effect in 2015.
