OAKBROOK, IL – McDonald’s is considering serving breakfast throughout the day, rewarding frequent diners with loyalty incentives and offering home delivery, USA Today reports.

McDonald’s President and CEO Don Thompson, speaking with CNBC last week, said the Golden Arches "has looked at breakfast across the day" and "innovative ways" to expand hours in the United States, noting that it has already done so in other countries.

"I think we'll be seeing some of those things in the near future," he said.

McDonald’s has begun testing delivery overseas and in some U.S. cities. Thompson said there are big opportunities for delivery, especially at stores without drive-thrus.

The announcements come on the heels of last week’s report that the company had disappointing U.S. and European sales.

Thompson said the “challenging retail environment” resulting from the economic recovery may ease somewhat later in the year.

"We always plan for the environment we're in," he said. "Right now, we don't expect to get the benefit of a resurgent economy."
