Based on the current pace states are adopting antismoking laws, every U.S. state may have a ban on smoking in restaurants, bars and the workplace by 2020.

"It is by no means a foregone conclusion that we??ll get there by 2020," said Dr. Tim McAfee, director of the CDC's Office on Smoking and Health.

The projection is based on the rate at which states have been adopting comprehensive smoke-free laws. In just the past 10 years, 25 states and the District of Columbia have enacted these laws, the CDC report said.
