SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Hannaford has requested permission from the Saratoga Springs Planning Board to offer curbside pickup service at its Saratoga Springs location, the Albany Business Review reports. The supermarket chain provides onsite pickup in Dover Fields, New Hampshire, and North Windham, Maine. However, Hannaford doesn’t deliver to homes.

To use Hannaford to Go, customers place their order and pay online via a computer or smartphone, select a pickup window, and then pull up to the store in a designated spot. Employees then bring out their groceries. Hannaford to Go even saves order history for easy re-ordering. The company doesn’t charge for the first order. Future pickups cost $5 if the amount is under $125; otherwise, the fee is waived.

The chain has been offering the service for about two years, and has just started expanding into New York. “It will be coming to more areas,” said Michael Norton, spokesman. “We think there will be others this year.”

The move comes as more grocery stores, such as Price Chopper and ShopRite, have begun providing similar services. Some chains even deliver groceries ordered online to a shopper’s home.
