New York County Raises Tobacco and E-Cigarette Purchasing Age

Suffolk County officials maintain their municipality is the first in the country to raise the minimum age for purchasing e-cigarettes (along with tobacco products) to 21.

MINEOLA, New York – Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone signed a law earlier this week that raises the age limit for purchasing tobacco products and electronic cigarettes to 21, The Modesto Bee reports.

County officials maintain theirs is the first municipality in the nation to raise the limit for both tobacco products and e-cigarettes to 21.

Last year, New York City raised the age limit on tobacco sales to 21. Several cities and states are considering raising the age limits for purchasing tobacco and e-cigarettes to 21.

The law takes effect January 1. Businesses that are found to be in non-compliance face fines of $1,000 or more.
