OAK BROOK, Ill. - McDonald??s wants you not just to eat its food but to work in its restaurants. Yesterday, the fast-food chain started a massive campaign to hire 50,000 workers, Advertising Age reports.

McDonald??s has its first National Hiring Day on April 19 and is encouraging prospective employees to drop by any of its 14,000 U.S. locations or visit its website to apply to be a crew member, manager or corporate employee. The push is part of the company??s plan to turn McJob?"slang for dead-end jobs?"into a more positive work opportunity.

"McJob is going to enter the conversation," said Rick Wion, McDonald??s USA social media director. "Rather than avoid the term, let's embrace it and turn it on its ear."

The promotion appears in print, radio, social media, point-of-purchase and packaging. The campaign also highlights McDonald??s workers of all positions to change the perception of the chain??s employees.

"The creative part is really highlighting the people at McDonald's and dispelling the myths that there isn't opportunity working here," said Marlena Peleo-Lazar, global creative officer at McDonald??s USA. "We really wanted to highlight our crew."

McDonald??s also asked its current workers for videos about why they love working for the company, some of which might be used in the campaign??s social media component.
