AUSTIN, TX - Whole Foods has installed an electric car charging station at the companys flagship store in Austin, the Austin Business Journal reports.

In recognition of the offering, the organic/natural foods grocer hosted a kickoff event yesterday that was attended by corporate executives, Austin Energy, Coulomb Technology and an Austin council member.

The charging station is a part of Coulombs ChargePointNetwork, which accommodates plug-in vehicles. Interested users can register for a monthly access plan with a ChargePass smart card or call a number on the charging station requesting one-time charging.

"Whole Foods Market is committed to supporting wise environmental practices, which means making decisions that positively affect the health of our planet, its people, and its resources," said Whole Foods Southwest Regional President Mark Dixon. "It is our hope that by offering electric vehicle charging we can support alternative transportation and help Austin residents decrease their environmental impact."
