SEATTLE – Amazon.com announced this week its new grocery-store pickup service, AmazonFresh, that will open to Seattle customers who are a part of the company’s Prime membership program.

“AmazonFresh Pickup is a fast and easy way to order groceries, pick them up, and be on your way in minutes. Orders can be ready in as little as 15 minutes after they are placed. There’s no order minimum and the service is free for Prime members,” notes the AmazonFresh website.

CNET.com reports that the grocery pickup locations are currently in beta, with only Amazon employees using them. Customers will be able to order online or via mobile from thousands of items, including produce, meats, dairy and other grocery staples. Amazon employees will select and bag orders for customers and bring their orders directly to customer vehicles at reserved times.

The news source writes that the grocery pickup locations are part of Amazon's effort to grow its physical retail presence, with the company opening bookstores, campus pickup locations and mall pop-ups. Amazon is also planning to open a convenience store concept.
