Health Care Wraps Up

The House voted late Sunday to send a package of health-care reform to President Obama.

March 22, 2010

WASHINGTON - After a bitter weekend of political brawls, philosophical posturing, and deal making, the House last night voted 219 to 212 to extend health care to all Americans.

Essentially two votes were cast. The first vote sent the Senate version of health-care reform to President Obama's desk, which he is expected to sign into law immediately. The second vote was for a package that will amend the law the president signs, pending approval by the Senate.

President Obama said, "This is what change looks like. At a time when the pundits said it was no longer possible, we rose above the weight of our politics. We didn??t give into mistrust or cynicism or fear. Instead we proved we are a people still capable of big things."

No Republican voted for the legislation. A list of Democrats who voted against the bill can be found below. NACS will be issuing an in-depth analysis of the final bill tomorrow. Compliance documents and a "What??s this means to you" guide will be available as soon as possible.
