THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - Couche Tard has expanded its social media Crime Busters program to Mac??s Convenience Stores in Canada. The company launched a similar program at its U.S.-based Circle K stores in Nevada and Arizona.

Mac??s will use Facebook and Twitter to help identify criminals, posting surveillance images that capture criminal incidents. The postings will include images with a description of the suspect and alleged crime, along with an appeal to contact Crime Stoppers if they have any information that can lead to apprehending the suspect.

"We hope this forward thinking approach to crime prevention will assist in the resolution of unsolved crimes," said Sean Sportun, manager, security & loss prevention for Mac??s in Central Canada. "Exposing criminals on our social media pages will certainly make them think twice before victimizing our retail business".

Local officials are embracing Mac??s strategy.

"I am pleased that Mac??s is initiating proactive measures in an attempt to stem the tide of robberies and make our community safer" said Mayor Keith Hobbs. "I encourage the public to support this initiative."
